In the photovoltaic industry, numerous laser processing steps are the industry standard both for the production of silicon-based solar cells and for the manufacture of thin-film solar modules.
The Photonics Systems Group is an established supplier for numerous manufacturers worldwide.
Our technology know-how is highly valued and has allowed our customers to reduce manufacturing costs and increase module efficiency for more than two decades.
The Photonics Systems Group has been delivering production solutions for the solar industry to customers worldwide for over 2 decades. In addition to high-volume production tools, we offer flexible platforms with multiple laser sources for process development.
In addition to standard processes such as the separation and selective doping of silicon solar cells or the laser edge deletion of thin-film solar modules, the Photonics Systems Group is constantly working on new laser-based technologies that could revolutionize the solar industry once again.
We are at your side as a strong partner – from the feasibility study to the selection of the optimum process machine and the transfer of the technology to high-volume production worldwide. Get in touch with us!
The laser process developed by the Photonics Systems Group for the direct cutting of solar cells is the world’s most advanced process for cell cutting.
The Photonics Systems Group offers both fully automated stand-alone systems and inline solutions for integration into the cell or module line.
Photonics Systems Group’s high-speed process for the production of rear contact openings enables the processing of cell formats up to M12 / G12.
Depending on customer requirements, the openings can be designed as line, dash or point contacts.
Losses in voltage and fill factor are minimized.
An optimized pattern achieves higher cell efficiencies.
Laser processes on IBC cells require very high positioning accuracy of the contact opening structures on the solar cell.
High-precision image processing technology and patented calibration strategies from the Photonics Systems Group enable the production of high-performance IBC solar cells in 24/7 operation.
Our systems can also be equipped with AOI units, which allow the highest positioning accuracies of <5µm in 24/7 operation
For foil metallization, an aluminium foil is placed on the back of the solar rows and selectively fired into the underlying silicon using a laser to form a SiAl alloy.
The excess foil is then cut out.
This process is a cost-effective alternative to plating or printing processes on the back of solar cells.
The process can also be used for the interconnection of shingle cells.
The Photonics Systems Group laser process for LDSE (selective emitters produced by laser doping) is not limited to special doping variants.
By using a square or rectangular top hat laser beam profile, a homogeneous energy distribution and thus a homogeneous doping can be achieved.
The Photonics Systems Group offers efficient processes for both P-type and N-type cells.
Edge isolation is a laser process that has been used in industry for over 20 years.
The Photonics Systems Group has been producing machines that support this process ever since.
These machines are characterized by high throughputs and high accuracy and enable continuous edge isolation, including the bypassing of the smallest edge break-outs.
In laser edge deletion, the coating of the solar modules is removed at the glass edge to create electrical insulation.
This process is relevant to safety in order to prevent voltage flashovers of several 1000V on the module frame.
The Photonics Systems Group systems are capable of decoating the edge of a module measuring almost 3m2 within 10s.
